Raziq’s hand stuck at the lift!.

Today I experience one of the scariest moment of my life. the moment that any parent would wish never happened. Thank God, everything ended-up OK.

We were at Sunway Pyramid (all five of us), I was doing some “research” on the next PC or notebook that we gonna purchase. there are some projects that requires better PC than the 5-year-old-Celeron that we currently  have.  We had decided to let the Celeron be the kids play-PC.

Anyway, there are not enough good models that fit in our specification, so we decided to go to Section 14 Digital Mall instead.

While inside the lift, Raziq was a bit playful, thumping his hand at the lift door. This is his usual “drill” whenever he in the lift of our apartment. I was holding Raeiyd on the other side of the elevator, while Ibu stands behind Raziq. When the lift door opens, his left hand still firmly  on the lift door.

Then the scary moment happened. As the door was opening, his left hand was pulled alongside and tucked into the  cavity between the door and the panel (where the door retracts).

His hand the became a wedge between the inside door and the elevator car. His hand stuck there, and the door cannot close.

It seems that the cavity between the door and the lift is too big, about 3-4cm, (about 1 1/4 inch), and any kid’s hand could easily slide in. Later on, I checked my apartment’s lift door, the cavity for our apartment’s lift  is only as thick as  the ATM card. There no possibility of anybody got their finger stuck there, let alone the whole hand.

So the difference is quite mind boggling.

Anyway, I not-so-gently put Raeid on the floor outside the lift, and began trying to pull Raziq’s hand out of the openings, but it just don’t bulge. Raziq was crying aloud, so I could not risk further injuring his hand. His hand right up to his elbow is trapped inside.

Ibu picked up Raeiyd, and ran outside to the CP2 parking-lot shouting for help, and looking for security guards. While Raidah also cried out aloud.

Soon, few good guys came for help. trying to push the door outwards so that the hand could be freed, but it still did not work. I have to hold Raziq firmly, so that his hand did not slide further down where the gap is smaller.

He also have to be hold lying up. His elbow would be bent if he stand straight. I cannot go anywhere, and would only have to rely on others to help relieve the door. Out of panic maybe, I couldn’t think of any solution.  Just hope the others know what to do.

The first iron frame that they found was too thick to slide into. Minutes later few guards, and “polis bantuan” came in and they immediately ask others to find any  other wood/steel/bar that can be used to widen the openings.

One found a wood, put it inside the cavity, and with a single yank, make the door move big enough for us the slide out Raziq’s arm.

Afterwards with the help of the security and building managemnt, we rush up him to the nearby Mediviron Clinic.

The doctor said that it looks like his hand is OK, but we might need to do x-ray to be sure. However since they did not have X-ray after 5PM, the doctor referred us to the Sunway Hospital instead.

At Sunway Hospital, the doctor immediately asked the nurse to put in a type of pain killer unto Raziq’s butt, while waiting for the x-ray to be ready.

After half an hour at the emergency room, we got the x-ray done, and alhamdulillah, the bones are still OK. But the hand had swollen a little bit.

We do have a bottle of Ibuprofen at home, The doctor adviced us to take the medicine to relieve his pain, and to  wrap the swollen arm with towel wrapped cold water or ice.

She asked us to come back if the swollen did not disappear after few days.

Anyway, thanks to Polis Bantuan En. Masnor (hope I got his name right) for helping us all the way.

and for Sunway Pyramid Management and officers who are really concern on the matter, ( an also for G.L.ing the medical bills).

Thank again to the Chinese guy who helped – the first one who give me a helping hand, and his wife for taking care of crying Raidah, while my wife rush for help.

Also to the brother with the blue shirt, and his wife, for putting all his might to help

And the rest who helped. May god bless you all.

Sorry for not able to thank all of you personally, I have to rush him for further medical attention.

At home, now Raziq behaves fine, and already had already started to nag me to let him use the computer.. But the swollen arm is more noticeable now especially at the back of the lower arm.

I will wait for one or two days.

  4. Dent, Alhamdulillah he is OK. Thank God.

The same thing pernah happen to my kid when he was 2 or 3 years old at One Utama.

In the lift, I was holding him, he pressed his hand against the door. When the door slid open, his hand was stucked in between. I was panicked like hell. Luckily, someone quickly closed back the door and his hand was released and saved.

A terrying moment for me and wife indeed.

  5. Salam, Alhamdulillah, everything’s ok. Can’t imagine the situation.
